My Braces Journey and Transformation

In my family, my sister and I have the ugliest teeth ever. Our relatives always asked us to put braces to look prettier. Indirectly, they were also saying we looked ugly la.. :’)  When I was in secondary school, my mom registered my sister and I for braces at the government dental clinic for only RM500. Freaking cheap right? But the queue was damn long. My sister managed to get a place but I didn’t get it because the nurse said my teeth was ‘kotor’ so cannot put. I didn’t bother and just gave up and thought it’s not a big deal to have ugly teeth.

However, years later, when I started working in Singapore in 2009, again, I was told that I should put braces. Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one with ugly teeth. And not just that, I also wanna be pretty la. Haha. One of the doctor recommended my friends and I to his dentist friend and asked us to have our teeth fixed. We were reluctant because it was very expensive to have the treatment here in Singapore. Imagine, RM500 vs SGD5000? But we were blessed and got a special rate. All in all, I still spent around SGD5000 because of the extractions and scans.

It was still very very very expensive for us but we went ahead, to look prettier. HAHA. We were able to pay in instalments, so it was not heavy for us financially. We completed the payment within 1.5 years. Although the price was sky high, I did not regret a bit. It was the best investment ever. So in March 2011, I went for consultation and extractions and finally in mid-April 2011, I had my braces on.

photo 2011.jpgApril 2011 – The first time Josh sees me in braces

I can’t remember exactly when but here is one of the first picture of me in braces. Now, let’s look at how much I have changed through my journey with braces. I honestly miss wearing braces! My teeth became aligned in just a month! Next intervention was to push my teeth backwards and this took a long time to be fixed as my upper jaw is bigger than my lower jaw. If I want a perfect smile I need to go through surgery to trim my upper jaw, or implant screws to force my teeth backwards. I chose neither and just hoped for the best my orthodontist could do.

 photo 011011.jpg October 2011

The orthodontist chose ceramic braces, aesthetically better looking than the metal ones. You can’t really see that I am wearing braces. Well, price wise, it is more expensive than the traditional metal braces.

 photo 140212-2.jpg February 2012.

Even before putting braces, I can’t even smile with my mouth closed. It’s just like =| kind of smile.

 photo IMG_1006.jpg May 2012

After extracting a whole total of 6 teeth, my jaw has also became smaller. Many people said I was stupid for extracting so many good teeth. Well, what to do. Nak cantik kan? Have to lor. Total of 6 teeth, but 2 was my wisdom teeth.

The orthodontist suggested to change my upper teeth braces to metal ones as my teeth was moving too slowly. And I have been wearing the braces for more than 2 years already. The metal braces is stronger than the ceramic braces. So I went through the process of removing the ceramic braces and then had the metal braces fixed. So yup, metal braces on my upper teeth and ceramic braces on my lower teeth.

13 June 2014

I wore my braces for 3 years and 2 months. And I love the results! Though my upper jaw is still bigger, but it has been pushed backwards by a lot already! I mean, if I want super perfect smile then I will have the screw implanted. But I’m very happy with it, I told the orthodontist to go ahead to remove my braces. Yeah, she asked me if I’m ok with it now, I said OK because it’s been more than 3 years already!

 photo 281214.jpg

 photo IMG_7675.jpg

Well, I’m very happy with the results. I can smile more confidently (though before braces I also smile confidently haha). Most importantly is being able to close my mouth and not looking like a rabbit/hamster.

However, after removing my braces, there is also the after care where I need to wear my retainers 24/7 for the first 6 months, then every night after that. My retainers look like the Invasilign aligners. I call them my teeth. Haha. Whenever I missed a day or two, the retainers feels extremely tight and it is very uncomfortable. Shows that my teeth can go senget anytime if I don’t bother to jaga.

If any of you in Singapore who is looking for a good orthodontist, drop me a message and I will give you the clinic address! I have recommended my orthodontist to a friend and she is also very happy with his service. I actually had 2 orthodontists handling my case as the first one has left the other clinic to open his own. Honestly I still prefer the first one. I like his service because he is a super perfectionist person and makes sure your teeth will look perfect! He will also scale my teeth at every visit! After going through 2 orthodontists, I realised how important is it to choose an orthodontist as they had to plan on how to reconstruct your teeth. I have seen friends’ whose teeth looks weird after braces (but they are happy about it though haha) and was hoping mine wont turn out that way! Thank God mine looks the way I wanted it to look. =)

Clean It Zero Cleanser

(Advert)

I am no beauty guru. But as a girl, I do put on makeup on a daily basis to conceal my imperfections due to breakouts, sinus problems and lack of sleep. Everyday to work, I will put on my BB cream, concealer, powder foundation, cream blusher and fill in my brows. If I have the mood to doll up, I will add on eye shadows, eye liner and mascara. After a long day from work, I need a good cleanser to clean off my makeup completely to prevent more breakouts on my skin, so I have always been trying all kinds of different makeup remover products to find the best I could.

I have heard about this Korean brand makeup cleanser called the ‘Clean It Zero’ by banila co. As many of you know, Korea is famous for their cosmetic products! I always have been a fan of Korean cosmetic products and often, I never dared to purchase from 3rd party suppliers as there are  incidents where fake products are sold. It’s scary as we don’t know what is inside the product!

BUT, I got this Clean It Zero from a very reliable supplier based in KL, who got their supplies of products all the way from Korea, directly from the manufacturer itself! I have been using it for a month and I LOVE IT!

The Clean It Zero Cleanser promises to remove dirt, makeup, and oil without drying the skin or leaving any greasy residue. Sound really promising right!

photo blog070814-1.jpgThe packaging is so pretty, right? I’m a sucker when it comes to pretty packaging. The Koreans are good at this! Just that for us non-Koreans, we will have difficulty reading the instructions and ingredients as everything else is written in Korean.

This pretty pink one is the Clean It Zero Original.
The Clean It Zero Original is suitable for normal skin and contains acerola and herbal essence for moisturising the skin.

There are another 3 types of Clean It Zero – Resveratrol,Radiance and Purity.

The Clean It Zero Resveratol is effective for reducing large pores. It contains grape seed oil and olive oil for thightening of the skin and gives a refreshing finish.

The Clean It Zero Radiance is for skin whitening and cleanses your pores. It contains viticin and moringa essence that aids in brightening up the skin.

The Clean It Zero Purity is for sensitive skin. It calms irritable skin and balances your skin texture. It contains mineral oils and null-additive paraben and does not contain any artificial pigments or fragrances and alcohol.

photo blog070814-3.jpgThis is what I meant by everything else is in Korean.

 photo blog070814-2.jpg

photo blog070814-6.jpgSo, the packaging also comes with a spatula. It is useful for those who is concern about hygiene. Some say your hands are dirty and you should not dip your finger into the product and contaminate it. Well, the spatula is also useful for those with long fingernails and those beautiful 3D nail arts.

Okaaaayyyy… as I am very concern in showing much of my face up close as my skin is quite at the worst side now and also because I do not have a pretty face, I shall demo on my forearm.

photo blog070814-7.jpgI applied a generous amount of SPF 45PA+++ BB Cream by Cyber Colors, cream blusher by Too Cool for School (super generous amount i know right…), Real Lasting Eyeliner 24Hours 1 Day Tattoo by K Pallette and some eyeshadow by MAC. I didn’t bring much makeup to Beijing so this is all I got.

 photo blog070814-8.jpg

photo blog070814-9.jpgThe texture of the product is actually quite moisturising. Ok, I suck at describing things.

photo blog070814-10.jpgScoop up a generous amount for your face (here, for my forearm) and start massaging it to dissolve the product. Well, massaging your face is also good for blood circulation. So it’s a win-win situation. You get your makeup removed, massage it to promote blood circulation that leads to younger looking skin and at the same time moisturizes your skin!

After massaging for about 1.5 minute, the product has dissolved completely…….

 photo blog070814-11.jpg

EXCEPT the EYELINER!

I actually massaged longer and harder on the eyeliner but it was so stubborn it didn’t wanna dissolve. It’s either my eyeliner is super powerful or Clean It Zero is not powerful enough to remove waterproof products.

For eye makeups, I usually use waterproof products as I have teary eyes. So having a cleanser that can remove waterproof makeups is very important to me. If you have sensitive eyes like me, do not attempt on your eyes.

After massaging, I rinsed off with water and yup, the makeup are completely gone (except the eyeliner). You can use a wet cotton or makeup remover wipes to remove them too. However, when used on my face, the Clean It Zero is solely to remove my make up only. I will still use my facial cleanser to wash my face before applying my other facial products.

 photo blog070814-5.jpg

Though the Clean It Zero is not effective on waterproof makeup, it is still the product that I would recommend to those who doesn’t use much waterproof eye make up. This product gently cleanses off your makeup on your face, moisturizes your face and like I say earlier, helps in blood circulation as you massage your face for a good 1-2 minutes =D As for me, I have to use a separate product to remove my eye makeups as it doesn’t help in dissolving waterproof products. However, as most days I do not put any makeup on my eyes already, this product is still a way to go for me!

To a Promising and Fruitful Year Ahead!

It’s been 3.5 years since I started working in Singapore. This 3.5 years has been tough as I juggled a lot on whether to give up working. I almost paid up my bond, but somehow I decided to stay.

I took up the Advanced Diploma in Perioperative Nursing in 2011 followed by my Degree in Nursing last July 2012. I have 2 more semesters until I complete my Degree and I plan to fly to Perth to graduate so I can get my certificate earlier as the graduation in Singapore is only in October next year. By getting my certificate earlier, I will be able to get my allowances earlier too. It is also an excuse so I can go holiday in Perth hihihihi.

Currently working about 9 hours a day makes me very tired physically. I don’t know is it because there isn’t much to do or is it just me getting older each day. I often get migraine and one fine day I was seeking treatment at another panel clinic and the doctor was really doing his job investigating the cause of my migraine. He suspected stress and suggested me to exercise. I am a person who hates exercising, so I gave him alasan I busy at work.

Finally, I decided to take up Pilates at Upside Motion.

 photo 536858_237563886343552_623340774_n.jpg

The reason why I chose Upside Motion is because I actually wanted to take up the Xtend Barre classes but was told that I should have some experience in Pilates Mat first to learn on how to work on my muscles the right way. So I chose the Pilates private lesson that cost me a bomb, but it is worth it.

Xtend Barre is a dance and pilates amplified workout. The workout of some ballet moves plus pilates attracts me because I wanted to take up ballet class and pilates at the same time but knowing the existence of Xtend Barre, my heart rejoiced! Xtend Barre is relatively new and there are only 2 studios in Singapore that offers this workout. I am doing a lilll Xtend Barre workout in my private class and I hope to be able to join the group classes soon. It’s tough and I salute all ballet dancers out there!

My beautiful instructor, Saniya doing her th’ng!

I think Saniya is super awesome! She is the instructor for Pilates, Xtend Barre and Yoga!

My target for this year is to tone up my muscles and wave bye bye to flabby tummy, hamstrings and triceps!

Other than juggling with work and studies and Pilates, I also took up a Diploma in Professional Makeup and Hairstyling Artistry. Call me crazy but I just want to make use of all the time I have. The makeup course is rather therapeutic than stress as the makeup school / studio is small and homely. I’ve always admire makeup artistry and how makeup can transform a person from looking like A to B. Its amazing! Who knows, in years to come, I can maybe use this new skills and work on my own flexible timing *wink*.

Well, I have also been admiring designs but since being in the nursing profession, I don’t have the time to sit down in front of my computer for hours doing editing or learning new editing / designing skills. I almost wanted to take part time graphic designing course but knowing graphic designing course assignments are a killer and it’s hard to juggle between work, degree and the those design assignments.

One fine day, I decided to look around for professional makeup classes and somehow stumbled upon a beautiful makeup studio site with awesome portfolio which happened that both makeup artists graduated from a school called The Makeup Room.

 photo ScreenShot2013-03-31at21358AM.png

I have not heard about about that school (plus it doesn’t even sound like a school) and decided to google more about it. There isn’t much results on the course offered by TMUR and at that time, they were upgrading their website.

 photo ScreenShot2013-03-31at21433AM.png

TMUR Makeup Artists

Nevertheless, there are lots of search results regarding the 2 senior makeup artist who are well known in Singapore and overseas and does lots of major assignments in theater, fashion shows, magazine shoots, bridal, etc.

I decided to pay the studio and when I arrived, I felt like I was visiting someone’s house. It’s small and cosy! I also viewed their portfolios and their works are awesome! I was also surprised to see my aunty and uncle’s wedding photograph in one of their portfolio! Apparently they were one of the first customer of one of the senior makeup artist and she is very grateful for the support that led her to where she is today. =)

Without thinking much, I signed up for the course and now I am in the 3rd month of the course. So far so good! Getting tougher each class and I still suck in hairstyling! Oh, for the hairstyling part, we are taught by Lai, who has many years experience in hairstyling and works with top fashion agencies in Singapore, Europe, Japan, etc!

So blessed and honoured to be trained by Singapore’s best!

And oh, I was surprised when I met my classmates too. I was expecting those who come are those who are school leavers or those who will put on heavy makeups and all but no! They are all professionals like me! :’)

After attending the makeup classes, I finally understand that makeup is truly an ART.

I’m getting hooked with all these new found love! Pilates and Makeup Artistry. <3
Xtend Barre – akan datang!

With all these, I have been spending a lot (really pokai every month) and with upcoming a surprise that I will reveal soon once it is ready to be revealed (no no, not getting married yet!).

2013 – Tough but it will be PROMISING and FRUITFUL!

How to be a blogger?

“Welcome back Tiffanie! Finally you are back after abandoning your blog for a year!”

Yes, it’s been almost a year since I last posted. Blame it on work and uni, I do not have much time and inspirations to blog anymore. I may not have many readers but I thought I should continue this blog thing and make some money haha.

Honestly, I don’t know what to write. And I do not have the time to look pretty and dress pretty and show off on my blog. Maybe when I have a nice figure (with the help of my new addiction – Pilates!) and able to fit in clothings without showing my spare tires, then I will. Self conscious alert! Haha.

To ponder: So what makes you a blogger? I have quite a number of blogger friends (and my bf is also a blogger) and I have met some celebrity bloggers too (thanks to the famous bf). I may not be a blogger (my definition of a blogger is when you have that high traffic and people recognises you as one), but I can still tell you how to be a FEMALE blogger!

 photo 24632898.jpg

Why not? Haha.

Ok… here is what I think that makes you a blogger. A female blogger.

1. You must have the looks.
Ok, maybe not 100% right on this but your looks must be attractive enough to make guys and GIRLS admire your looks or maybe fall in love with you or maybe hate you for being too pretty or too ugly. You may not have the looks but you can photoshop your eyes, nose, lips, face, boobs, etc to look good on internet and amaze the world but be prepared to receive lots of criticism because you don’t look like how you suppose to look in real life.

 photo mobile-phone-texting-autocorrect-self-poortraits-photoshop-fail.jpg

If your photoshop skill fails, maybe you should learn to pick up and practice on it because trust me, people prefer reading blogs with quality content and photos with graphic editings. If you are not the computer savvy kind, mayb you can pick up some make up skills and transform your self

from this

 photo another-set-of-asian-girl-and-the-power-of-makeup.jpg

to

 photo another-set-of-asian-girl-and-the-power-of-makeup8.jpg

this!

How amazing makeup can be! <3

2. You must have good sense of fashion and BASIC makeup skills.
You don’t need that super awesome skills yet to transform your whole look like the picture above. Baby steps! Start simple first to just look good (cover up your pimples, dark circles, dullness, etc). Maybe just having that natural look IS you. Find and discover what fits you.
Many girls out there look for inspiration on how to improve their looks and often look out for blogs. I believe every girls will look at blogs and YouTube to pick up these skills. So you must look good at least and dress up to the latest trends or maybe create your own style to attract readers. Above all these, beauty is still your confidence. Show confidence in your pictures, and that’s the secret to attraction and beauty! When you learn to master all these, it will be very natural on you and it will be part of you that you cannot live without. HAHA.

You know, some guys may stalk your blog and some may comment that they prefer simple girls (simple fashion and no makeup). I have seen some bloggers are brave to look unglamorous to show their “real look” but I am sure some girls feel very insecure leaving the house without makeup. Some will even get panicked when they couldn’t find their usual routine to make themselves pretty. ie. contact lens. I have seen patients that put on makeup before going in for surgery and at the end of the surgery, their fake lashes came off and the doctor gets panicked…..

 photo panic.gif

………because they don’t know how to fix it back. haha.

For me, I will get panicked when i cannot find trusty Shu Uemura my brow pencil.

3. You must be a camwhore / selfie expert.
It’s a girls thing but I see many guys doing this as well. Wherever you go (even in the toilet), go ahead and camwhore and post up pictures on your #ootd or #fotd or #potd. You need other social media platform such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter to post them up! You can use these platforms to promote yourself too.

 photo 529606_10151284692066546_1745916305_n.jpg

oh hi. Just promoting myself.

4. Whenever you see a camera, pose!
All those model poses, you know? If you can’t pose, just be au naturale. Good enough! Also good for #ootd posts. Some people just love the camera. And you should also develop this new addiction. Just pose! Or maybe plan some photoshoots and have some good quality pictures to be posted up on your blog. Get a friend who is kind to snap your pictures for free. Get a friend who has boleh tahan punya photography skills at least. You wouldn’t want to ruin the whole photoshoot with the wrong angles and poor management of camera settings that make you look unpleasantly fat or ugly. Then, with your good fashion taste and make up and the confidence in you, you will have many followers on your blog soon, then soon your fan-ci!

5. Join a blogging community / agency such as Nuffnang/Advertlets/GushAds.
This is where you get to meet other bloggers, monitor your blog statistics and earn some money. When your blog traffic hits a certain number and have a consistency in maintaining that traffic, you have high chance to be given assignments on reviewing products and events. You may also get free movie or event passes and meet all those bloggers you have been following and inspired by.

6. Socialize.
It’s a good thing to mix around and making new friends! But to be a blogger, try attending events where you will meet other bloggers too. You must be known to your friends as “you super on one!” where you are always at events, concerts, parties, etc. with other bloggers. You need to mix in with the right people (because they will recommend you, post you on their blogs or other social sites).

I have been to events but I don’t really mix around as I am not really into blogging about the events or to gain popularity. But of course, I have met some people and some of them are really famous bloggers. Here are a few pictures of events I have attended with the bf. I can say he is well known because people on his left, right, up and down also he knows.

Chin Kent’s wedding.

Haha. Not any media event but I like this picture so I wanna post it up. =P

7. Review as much products as you can.
Many people tend to search for reviews on certain products, movies, albums, institutions, clothings, etc. Though you are not paid for the reviews, just go ahead and do your reviews! You need to invest in getting more traffic to your blogs and slowly have agencies/companies recognising your capabilities in advertising their products. One of my friend who enjoys blogging because of her readers enjoys doing reviews on products she used. I believe one day she will be one of the top blogger too. Do visit Jo-Ann’s blog at joannwithadash.blogspot.sg and I believe you will get hooked too because of her vainity yet humble blog that is slowly gaining popularity. =)

8. Blog with responsibility!
Your blog is viewed by the world (depending on your content). Even my low profile blog is being viewed all over the world for this one post I posted 2 years ago.

 photo Seriously.gif

The content of your blog must be good and attractive that keep readers and Google addicts coming back to your blog. Blog about how beautiful you are. Blog about your travel to India. Blog about how you sleep. Blog about how much you love your dog. Just blog! But blog responsibly!

Yes, it is your blog. You can blog about anything you want. You can whine and complain all you want. But as a blogger, you are responsible for all the post you post up. You are responsible for the words you write as it reflects your attitude. You may be famous already and you wouldn’t care at all. But you wouldn’t like if others talk bad about you on blogposts too, right? Sometimes I wonder, is this call “blogging abuse” which is similar to “verbal abuse”. To be an influential blogger, stay humble, accept criticism and grow in your passion.

So far I can only think of these few. But I am sure there are more than this that makes you a blogger.

I also don’t know why am I writing about this and I don’t know when will I be blogging again.

Need to start on my assignment soon!

(wow…close to 1500 words. That is equivalent to the word count my analytical project that I will take a couple of days to complete!)

Artisan Roast

Arrived in KL at 12.45am on Saturday. My brother picked me up and told me that he’ll bring us (Pao and Phoebe) for breakfast. He said, “I’ll bring you for breakfast tomorrow. Very POWER one!”

Alright, breakfast it is. But I was wondering if we could all wake up for breakfast because by the time we arrive home is almost 3am. I overnight at Pao’s place and we slept at 4.30am. Set our alarms and woke up at 8.30am. Called my brother to wake him up and we left home at around 9.30am, heading to Ampang Park to pick my sister up.

We took sometime looking for this place, called Artisan Roast in Ampang. Somehow, my brother and Pao forgotten how to get there. But finally, we found that place!

After parking the car, we walked through the pathway to a pondok, where Artisan Roast is.

Photobucket

The waiter came and told us the main cook is on 2 days leave for Hari Raya Haji, so their famous breakfast set is not available. However, a simple breakfast meal was suggested to us. We agreed because they still have the coffee, where we were looking forward to!

But I’ll tell you what we makan-ed lah. Basically, our meal consists of omelette with cheese, toast and tomatoes with vinegar. It’s simple but yummy! Man, i’m now craving for the cheese omelette now!

According to what was written on the website:

Freshly roasted, freshly ground coffee made by fresh baristas.

Artisan Roast provides you with the best cup of coffee that we can. We specialise in mighty fine coffee. We also play music and eat food, but mostly we concentrate on the coffee. We source green coffee, roast it and prepare it with a lot of care and attention. And then we serve it to people who can really taste the difference.

Get on the outside of a great coffee from Artisan.

We are the importers of Kees van der Westen espresso machines to Malaysia.

For those who are caffeine-shy, we also import Red Espresso.
